The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE), which is presently embroiled in the Alzheimer's drugs controversy, is slated to give the finishing touches to the treatment plan, targeting obesity in adults and children.

The organization is seriously contemplating the idea of enabling overweight teens the prospect of stomach surgery, footed completely by the NHS. As per the plan, the surgery, budgeted at an expenditure of £8,000 for each procedure, will be given to obese children who have undergone several unsuccessful attempts at losing weight.

The overriding motive behind this idea is that obese children could be assisted with timely surgery that can offset potential lifestyle diseases, like diabetes, which would ultimately benefit both the individual and the NHS, the latter could save the cost of treating a sick child.
