Oculus, a Californian firm has claimed to have developed super-oxidised water, which speeds up healing of a wound.
The water, which is made by passing it through a salt membrane that generates the oxychlorine ions, kills bacteria, virus and fungi.
The company claims that the solution is effective against Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).
"We would welcome any safe effective treatment which could help people with diabetes make a swift recovery," the BBC quoted Tracy Kelly, Diabetes UK care adviser, as telling New Scientist.
Professor Andrew Boulton, from Manchester Royal Infirmary, who is involved with one of the early UK trials, said the treatment may yield favorable results.
"Hopefully it will confirm our initial good experience," he said.
