Health Farming by Dr. Krishna Murari Modi

Foreward

From the dawn of human civilization many systems of medicine have developed throughout the world, including our indigenous Ayurveda based on the Atharva Veda. The importance of the body as the basis of all other achievements was well recognized by the Vedic seers - "shariramadyam khalu dharmasadhanam". Over the last few centuries the allopathic systems of medicine has gained pre-eminence, mainly as a result of remarkable advances in pharmacology and surgery.

In recent years, however, there has been growing realization that excessive use of drugs in beginning to have a reverse effect. Instead of strengthening the natural defence mechanisms of the human body, they tend to weaken them by making them dependent upon drugs and chemicals. A health farming movement directed towards strengthening the body’s own resistance to fight infection and disease is now rapidly growing throughout the world, and in the West health-foods and health-stores have become commonplace.

It is curious that in India, we still seem to be moving in the opposite direction. Even in our medical colleges there is hardly any attention given to health farming and nontoxic means of strengthening the body’s immune system. Health farming is, in fact a well recognized branch of medicine, but it is still not widely prevalent, and the literature available leaves a great deal to be desired.

It is, therefore, a welcome development that Dr. Krishna Murari Modi has written this book "Health Farming" covering a broad spectrum of topics connected with health care. It will be a useful addition to the literature on the subject, and should help in bringing about wider public awareness of the importance of a correct diet, posture and exercise, and simple health farming techniques which, incidentally, are also less costly than allopathy and in some cases, specially of chronic diseases like arthritis and asthma, often more effective. Dr. Modi has evidently studied the subject in depth.
