Healing Journey – Choices & Solutions After Abuse

The panic that surrounds when we talk about abuse, the queasy feeling associated with it, the gripping of anxiety and discomfort on reading the morning headlines instantly instills fear and in some way revives the memories otherwise subdued or suppressed long back.

Before we talk about "abuse” let us understand what ‘abuse’ really means.  On breaking the word abuse into "Ab” and "use”, "Ab” means "about” while use refers to "being used”. Hence Abuse literally means being used in a way that is not acceptable”. This may be of various types emotional, physical, mental, verbal, substance, sexual and economic, abuse are some of them.  All of the above types are equally damaging.  Abuse could be inflicted by self or others. ‘Self abuse’ means behavior that causes damage or harm to one-self.


Now we will talk about abuse caused about others. According to me abuse is "power play” Any kind of abuse is generally dealt with silence as talking about it needs courage. Sadly even today it is the victim’s, mostly girl’s image that gets tarnished and she feels that it is her fault. There is huge sense of shame and vulnerability attached to this issue.


Personally I've been trying to get over the sexual abuse I went through as a child at six years of age.  Today after resolving my own issues, I am fearless and have the courage to break my silence and speak up for myself and others.  I hold no anger against anyone rather I have a massive learning to move ahead in life and help others too.


My effort to speak on this topic is to help someone like me and empower them tackle the root cause and it’s effects and make their life blossom.


This social virus called abuse can strike anyone, anytime irrespective of class, caste, creed, sex, personality and nationality. ‘Feeling of shame’ is the very big reason that these cases go unreported and causes silence, secrecy and misjudgment.
